The Los Angeles Foodie Rating:

The Summary:
This review covers breakfast only. Other menu items were not sampled. The general feel is pleasant and upscale, and the reasonably priced menu adds to the appeal. The breakfast dishes were hit and miss, but the service was excellent.
The Place:
The interior of The Farm is large with a small bar area, a large seating area, an open kitchen, and a small patio outside. The tables and chairs are made of quality wood, and the tables all have white tablecloths, which give the seating area an upscale feel. The walls are filled with old metal farm equipment, which is overly-busy for my liking. I decide to sit in the patio area, which has a more modern, almost Pottery Barn, feel to it. The patio faces LA live and away from the street, so in the morning it’s quiet and calm.
The Food:
Coffee is served in a large, very cool-looking mug. The coffee has a mild flavor but tastes good enough that no sugar or cream is necessary.
The buttermilk pancakes are dense but have a light flavor. The real Vermont maple syrup has a natural sweetness and reminds me why real maple syrup is so much better than the artificial stuff.
The Farmer’s Benedict is different than the normal Benedict in that it uses cooked spinach instead of a muffin. The next difference is the cheddar stuffed baked potato under the medium poached eggs. This half-potato is baked to near perfection and the cheddar cheese has a sharp flavor that goes perfectly with the eggs. But not all was great — the toast looked like it came from a loaf of wonder bread, and the fruit cup was only so-so.
The breakfast casserole is scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, sausage and smoked gouda all mixed in with hash browns. The sausage and bacon taste great and aren’t overly salty. The eggs are fluffy and the Gouda is flavorful but not overpowering like many cheeses can be in these kinds of dishes. Sadly, the hash browns have a chewy consistency and bland flavor and smother the rest of the dish into mediocrity.
The Service:
The service is excellent; I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup, and the wait staff is well-trained to give helpful advice and suggestions. It was not crowded when I was there, but the restaurant’s efficiency would suggest that same level of attention at a busier time.
