Food Buzz of the Week, August 11th

I try to stay on top of what’s new, and more importantly what’s hilarious in the foodie world. Here is what people have been talking about online this week…
- The ChefStack is a pancake machine, pure and simple. I’ve seen other pancake machines, including the one that SweetStacks was using at the Celebrity Food Show. But unlike other pancake-assembly apparatus, the ChefStack looks more like a robot. Maybe it’s because it’s more enclosed than others. What could be going on under the hood? In any case, the manufacturer claims that theirs is “the world’s first automatic pancake machine.” Hmm, I’m not so sure about that claim, but it certainly is cool.
- Though not necessarily buzz-worthy, this blogger’s recipe for traditional southern cornbread caught my attention.
- Yiddish jokes abound in this New York Daily News piece about the world’s largest matzo ball. I’m now craving soup.

- Not all of us have fireplaces, but sometimes we all crave a crackling fire on a chilly winter night. Thank goodness for the geniuses behind the scores of available yule log DVDs that depict a cozy fire on your television screen. Similarly, not all of us have pizza ovens. This got the gears turning in the heads of the good people at Videopizza.biz. After all, who wouldn’t want to watch a DVD of a scrumptious pizza baking but not be able to smell it or eat it? Everyone, that’s who.
- Order plenty of copies for the whole family. Produced, naturally, by Wolf Choir.
- Canned tuna… is it good? Can it be good? Personally, I’ve taken a shine to prepacked tuna in pouches. If you think about it, the canning process cooks the tuna – overcooks it in most cases. And the bigger the container, the longer it has to be cook in order to sterilize the contents. A small, thin pouch requires less cooking time. Therefore, the tuna inside is less apt to be overdone.
- Epicurious puts different tunas to a taste test.
- If you haven’t been to Scoops in Hollywood, RUN! I’m not a huge fan of sweets, but I am a sucker for an expertly crafted ice cream or gelato. Scoops makes every flavor fresh each morning. My favorite so far has been lavender goat cheese.
- Better Homes & Gardens uncovers some other crazy flavors across the states.

- For a while, a few years back, there seemed to be an ongoing contest to see who could make the most disgusting sandwich. I think this was probably the winner.
- Divine Caroline, purveyor of fine food lists, compiled this collection of the seven fattiest sandwiches in the U.S.
