Hi Anne. Thanks for your comment. The apple/orange salad is about as simple as it sounds.

Core and cut one apple into matchsticks, and then toss the matchsticks in about a tablespoon of fresh-squeezed lemon juice. Then cut a medium-sized orange into suprèmes (if you don't know how, watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjOEGQ18F-A). Toss the orange suprèmes with the apple matchsticks and then top with a light sprinkling of very coarse sea salt. The salt enhances all of the existing flavors and adds an interesting crunchy texture to the dish.

YAY Spud! I am bummed that they just raised their minimum free delivery amount (from $28 to $32), but I'm always amazed at what a bounty of great produce you can get from these folks.
I always make an effort to buy the local stuff on their checklist first, since all that travel adds up, carbon-wise.
Having all the fresh food around forces me to cook, which can be hard for us planning-impaired, and it entices my husband to eat a banana once in a while.

I think Spud is a stellar option for those who can't get to farmers markets all the time.
And, can you post that apple/ orange/ salt dish? Sounds unique.

Laura - Thank you so much for your detailed account of your experience with Spud! I have noticed many of the same qualities in my short time with them. One thing that I chose to leave out of my review (but maybe shouldn't have) is that I am continuing on with the Spud! service as a fully-paid customer. I am convinced that most people who try them will stick with them.

Here is one of my favorite recipes for the grill:

Mushrooms with Smoked Paprika Rub

In a large bowl, make a wet rub with:
Olive oil
Kosher salt
Fresh ground pepper
Granulated garlic
Smoked paprika (get the good stuff - I go to Surfas in Culver City)

Clean and dry mushrooms, then toss them in the rub to coat.
Over medium-high heat, cook the mushrooms, turning occasionally until they are cooked all the way through. Don't worry if the coating chars a bit. It still tastes great. Cooking time is going to vary depending on the size of the mushrooms.

Thanks again for all of your feedback!
