Why Twitter is Perfect for Foodies

Some colleagues and I went out to lunch today, and as usual, I was asked to pick the restaurant. We were in the mood for good pub food, and nothing immediately came to mind, so I Googled, “gastro pubs santa monica” and got the following result.
Do the search yourself. Click through the results. Nearly all of the results are useless. First of all, the first Maps result is Father’s Office, whose kitchen is closed for lunch. Same with The Yard. The third result, Father’s Office again, isn’t even in Santa Monica, and its kitchen is also closed for lunch. A new search that says, “gastro pubs santa monica lunch” isn’t any better. So I did what I’ve been doing more and more lately and turned to Twitter where I asked, “Anybody know of a good gastropub in Santa Monica that does lunch on Thursdays?” So far I’ve had 24 (and counting) @replies, and nearly every single one was a great suggestion.
Library Ale House was a common suggestion, so I consulted their website and saw that they don’t list their hours. Or if they do, I couldn’t find them. For shame, Library Ale House. Since I was multitasking, I accidentally got Library Ale House confused with another website and tweeted, “Library Alehouse isn’t open for lunch on Thursdays.” For the record, it is open for lunch on Thursdays, evidenced by the @reply from Library Ale House (see below).

This is definitely not the first time Twitter has been 100 times better than Google when it comes to finding a good restaurant. So, way to be on the ball Library Ale House, and thanks to everybody who follows Los Angeles Foodie on Twitter. Also, thanks in advance for next time.
