Los Angeles Oktoberfest 2009 Preview
Tweet
There’s a new Oktoberfest coming to town and, lest you had any doubts, Los Angeles Foodie plans to be there to welcome the hearty German food and overflowing beer steins with open arms. The inaugural LA Oktoberfest – which will be tapping its first keg on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. and rolling until 6 p.m. – promises a smorgasbord of sausages, bratwursts, sauerkraut, giant pretzels, strudel, popcorn, ice cream and, of course, plenty of Bavarian brews and spirits.

A few details for you in advance:
The event will be held at the LA Mart, located at 1933 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, Calif., from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. (VIP admission at noon). The opening ceremony will kick the event off with the traditional Tapping of the Keg, a Bavarian custom that sets the beer in motion.
Entertainment will include a 25-member live Bavarian band, sing-alongs to old-time drinking songs, a Polka band with Bavarian dancers, a special aerial show with showgirls costumed in dirndl dresses, and a variety of contests. If that weren’t enough to entice you, there’ll also be a full-blown beer pong tournament, so come ready to play (and drink).
LA Oktoberfest tickets start at $15 and include a half-liter souvenir stein and your first pour of the day. Advance tickets are available online or at Vendome Wine & Spirits locations, or you can buy them at the door. You must be at least 21 to attend, and there will be plenty of parking is available. (However, if you’re planning to really celebrate Oktoberfest-style, I recommend finding yourself a designated driver or plotting out your public transportation in advance. I know I will.)
Hope to see you there!
