The OC Fair cleaned up its act this year – literally. The grounds are cleaner, the bathrooms are cleaner, and maybe it’s my imagination, but the fair patrons seemed cleaner this year too. Maybe a special request went out last year to all the dirty people asking them to please take a bath before attending this year. In any case, 2009 is my favorite OC Fair to date. I’ve been three times so far this year, and I’m hoping to make it once more before it’s over. In addition to all the amazing food, shows, livestock, and competition, the 3-D “Weird Al” attraction, Al’s Brain, is tons of fun. I hope some of the following photographs (there are lots more in the gallery at the end) can communicate the awesome smells, sights, and sounds from this year’s fair. And don’t forget that you still have a few days left. The fair runs through August 9th.
The chocolate-covered bacon was heavy on the chocolate and light on the bacon. It would have been better the other way around, but it was still completely awesome.
Bacon-covered jalepeño peppers stuffed with cheese. This time the bacon is on the OUTside.
The French bread pizza was sublime. I didn’t think I was going to like the thick, airy bread, but these guys got it right. Crunchy and delicious.
Not the best taco I ever had, but far from the worst. The ingredients were fresh.
