Sunland Tujunga Watermelon Festival
Tweet
Thanks to the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club, I enjoyed last Saturday afternoon by eating watermelon in Sunland Park. For just a buck – yep, a buck – you were provided with all the watermelon you cared to eat…

…and all of the seeds you cared to spit.
Just to give you an idea of the small-town feel of this festival, the event website lists items currently awaiting claim in the lost-and-found. Food vendors abounded.

The most notable and decadent item for me was a whole potato, spiral-sliced, deep-fried, and topped with bacon and ranch.

Along with the watermelon tent, where an entire team was constantly hacking away at a seemly-bottomless stack of watermelons, there was a seed spitting content and a low-rent carnival. You know, the kind where the thrill isn’t the ride itself but rather the fear of whether or not the ride will hold together. Lots more photos are in the gallery below.
