Death Wings
LA Foodie is a bit off-topic today. I have always loved the concept of eating food so spicy that you have to talk the restaurant into serving it to you. Hot wings have long been one of my favorite spice delivery vehicles. There is a restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri called Grinders. If you are ever in the area, it’s worth the drive. Not only do they serve great pizza, cheesesteaks, and hot wings, it’s an awesome venue for live music. Plus it’s in a great part of downtown Kansas City that has undergone a recent renaissance just like Los Angeles.
Grinders was recently featured on an episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives. If you can get past Guy Fieri’s catch phrases and kooshball head, you’ll see a great television piece about one of my favorite restaurants in Kansas City.
But arguably even better than eating dare-the-kitchen hot wings is watching someone else eat dare-the-kitchen hot wings. Grinders calls their wings Death Wings, and if you order them with Death Sauce, you’re in for a ride.
To-date, I have watched four people attempt to finish a basket of six Death Wings. Only one has succeeded.
