OC Fair 2008… Fried

This weekend is your last chance to indulge your everything-on-a-stick fantasies at the Orange County fair. My wife, my sister and I recently spent a full Saturday at the fair. It’s the first year that I have been organized enough to arrive shortly after the gates opened and stay until late into the night.There was obviously plenty of beer to be drunk, and I certainly pitched-in in that capacity. Some of the players in the fried show:

Hot dog inside of zucchini, breaded and fried
Deep fried Twinkies, Snickers, and Oreos
Fried artichoke hearts
Fried Spam
The absolutely awesome cinnamon roll that they make right in front of you
French bread pizza

…but the real star this year was the battered and deep fried White Castle slider. Oh my dear god. And yes, it’s 145% more awesome that you can even imagine.

I highly recommend taking the sky lift early on in the day to survey the entire fairgrounds. But take another ride at night for a gorgeous view of flashing lights and the shuffling masses.

Sometimes only photos can do a spectacle like a county fair justice. So…
