Celebrity Food Show 2009

The celebrity food show is a combination of a contest in multiple categories, a trade show exposition, and celebrity talks and demonstrations. At this weekend’s event in Anaheim, CA, the most famous winner of Food Network’s The Next Food Network Star, Guy Fieri, accounted for the “celebrity” part of the show. While Guy signed autographs and took photos with fans, the trade show floor bustled with specialty food items that ranged from bottled water extracted from the floor of the ocean and chocolate fountain pellets custom color-matched to the theme of your wedding or event. The show was open to the public, so I muscled through the dense crowd to fearlessly taste the best of what’s new.

Guy Fieri — even just looking at the poster exhausts me.

Guy Fieri and groupies.

Never underestimate the drawing power of free samples.

Mahler’s Culinary Delights — Oreo caramel apple. Exactly what a caramel apple should be — crisp, juicy and sweet. And a complete, delicious negation of all health benefits associated with apples.

Oregon Dukkah — the company’s dry-rub dips didn’t blow me away. But its new line of flavored pretzels — including Maple Bacon — merited a second serving.

Exactly what you want to be thinking about while you taste-test fudges, oils and decadents of all kinds.

Arlene’s Gourmet Toffee — rich, sweet, creamy. Well, it is toffee, after all.

Apparently the Cheesecake Factory had better things to do.
