Now With More Blog! …and Red Lobster!

It’s probably obvious to many that www.la-foodie.com is a WordPress Blog, but I originally did not intend to use this site to ramble on about food, my thoughts, Los Angeles, whatever. It was supposed to be a restaurant review site, plain and simple. Well, that didn’t turn out so awesome. As it happens, writing reviews takes a really long time. If Los Angeles Foodie were my full-time job (how cool would that be?), then this time issue wouldn’t be a problem at all. I would happily skip through the corridors of the 3rd Street Farmer’s Market with my laptop tucked away under my arm. But like you, I have a day job.

I have managed to write a few reviews here and there, and largely I think they’re pretty good. People have complimented me at least (maybe they are just being nice). But I realized that on a regular basis, I have all kinds of fun food stuff to write about, and I actually prevent myself from doing so because the format of the site isn’t conducive to regular Blog posts. Well, enough is enough.

For example, several weeks ago, I went to Red Lobster for the first time since college - and for the second time in my life. I know, I know - this goes against the entire Los Angeles Foodie philosophy, but what the hey. I remembered Red Lobster as being a vile place with passable cheese biscuits and nothing else worth the drive. A friend of mine was visiting from Chicago, and he was down with the plan. I also convinced my sister to come along. How bad could it be?

I had two choices of Red Lobsters within driving distance (I live near Culver City). There is one in Torrence and one in Inglewood. I opted for the Inglewood location. By the way, the next time you are making Red Lobster plans, try to remember the Sunday post-church crowd… I didn’t. After waiting about 30 minutes, which I killed by taking pictures (and having a really weird but polite exchange with a guy in the bathroom), we were seated. I got the lobster (obviously), and the three of us shared various appetizers and sides. I won’t go into detail because you can see for yourself in the photos below.

The verdict: It was actually pretty good. Not awesome or anything, but I honestly expected it to be Long John Silvers quality, and it was more like… well, a seafood restaurant. That should teach me not to be such a snob. But I gotta tell you, the next time I have a lobster jones, I don’t think Red Lobster is going to make the cut. I have my eye on The Reel Inn.
